So you want to know a little bit more about me do you .. Okay, but let see how deep you want to go.
A weird lefty, born sharing a birthday with a unique few …
I was born on the 29th of February, {you can guess the year} becoming part of a wonderful family of 4. My most important life lessons were taught to me by my Maths Teacher Mother, my Police Officer Father, and of course my Big Sister. I owe the majority of who I am today to their wonderful stewardship of my life, and it’s something I will treasure forever.
Spent 25 years wondering what I’d like to be when I grew up …
When I grew up I wanted to either be a vet, or fly helicopters. That was until i actually went to a vet and realised where the thermometers went, and found out how many thousands it cost to learn how to fly a chopper… Thus I rolled through life with a determination to simply do the very best as at what I was asked to do.
There was no plan, no strategy and found me climbing the corporate ladder. I worked for big call centres, a bank and a utilities company. It bought me a house, a corvette and allowed me to meet my wonder fiancee.
Found my place with a company called SitePoint …
Bucking the plush offices and job certainty of the corporate world I took a shot and found myself at a very small startup called SitePoint. Within a week I had found my home, and a career that was so much more to me than a Job. I spent 5 years at SitePoint, some of the most rewarding of my life. I made me a better person, in the office and at home and the experience opened my eyes to a brand new world.
Did some really really cool shit …
The half a decade I spent with the SitePoint group saw the creation of 4 new businesses, growth in the number of staff from 10 to 50. It was a baptism of fire as we took pride in doing what no one else had even thought of, and turning them into successes. We played hard and partied harder, never for a moment looking back over our shoulder. As a pivotal moment in my career there are none bigger than my days in the SitePoint offices.
Met some really really cool people …
Over my life I’ve been given the opportunity to meet, but also work with some pretty amazing people. They include entrepreneurs of the year, 16 year old millionaires, web and blogging super stars just to name a few. I’ve make life long friends and colleagues all across the globe.
Reminded myself of where my passions were …
When I decided that it was time for me to move on from SitePoint I grabbed an opportunity to work with one of Australia’s largest software companies. A really successful account software development that had stood the test of time. I was optimistically excited to be able to bring my experience in the start-up world to somewhere more formalised. The first problem was that is was accounting {boring!} but the most important of all was that there was too big a divide between the way I did my thing, to that of a bunch of bean-counters. With different visions, it was going to difficult to make it work.
What it did show me was where my true passions were.
Excited about an unknown future …
I now have found my new home running my own company working on some amazing projects with some impressive people. I’m back to my chaotic start-up roots and I know deep inside me, that I kinda like it that way anyway.
